Il Gelato di Claudio Torcé

This week's locale is for lovers...of gelato! While I firmly believe that my favorite flavor combination of pistacchio e cioccolato will never die (after all, its one of the Eternal City's favorites too), there is a new movement towards unique and inventive flavors in Roma's gelato scene. Some are elegant, like Gelateria del Teatro's Rosemary Honey Lemon, while others are fun and a bit bizarre, like Fatamorgana's Cioccolato Kentucky (made with coffee, bourbon, and Kentucky tobacco flavoring).

Il Gelato di Claudio Torcé fits perfectly in the middle. The flavors prove to be luxurious and innovative, including some very fun experiments with unusual ingredients. Brie con Frutti di Bosco (forest fruit), strudel, gorgonzola, celery, carrot, habañero and zabaione will satisfy the adventurous, but their seleciton of chocolate gelati is impressive by itself!

Claudio Torcé is the grandfather of the new gelato movement. He has trained the likes of Maria Agnese Spagnuolo (Fatamorgana) and Enrico and Francesca Gori (Gelateria Gori). A small is just 1.80 euro, and you will find new flavors all the time! Best of all, the ingredients are all natural and made from the highest quality ingredients.

Every Monday night TramTracks passes by Il Gelato di Claudio Torcé at 59 Viale Aventino, so keep your eyes out for it! Unfortunately they are closed Mondays, but stop by between Tuesday and Sunday from 11:30am-11:30pm. You can also get there via MetroB. Its located between the Circo Massimo and Piramide stops, so take your pick (although we can't help you choose which flavor of gelato to get)!
